Washing machine making loud banging noise, Vancouver apartment

My washer has started banging loudly during the spin cycle. It’s a GE top loader, about 5 years old, in my Vancouver apartment. I suspect it might be the drum bearings or unbalanced load. Any tips on how to diagnose or fix it?

Try running a spin cycle with just a towel to see if noise persists.

Check the suspension rods or springs inside, they often cause banging if damaged.

If bearings are bad, it’s usually cheaper to replace the whole machine unless you’re handy.
