Carpet to hardwood transition strips – which type for attic stairs?

Ethan Lee · · 3 replies

I’m swapping carpet for hardwood on my attic stairs in Toronto. Need transition strips where hardwood meets carpet on landing. Should I go for metal or wood strips? Any brands at Home Depot that work well and won’t loosen with foot traffic?

I used metal T-molding strips from Home Depot on my stairs; very durable and looks clean.

If your carpet is thicker, wood strips might work better to avoid tripping hazards.

Make sure to securely screw or nail the strips down to prevent shifting.
