When exactly should I swap to winter tires in Toronto? Weather's all over the place

Liam Young · · 3 replies

Hey all, new to winter tires and wondering when's the best time to get them put on? It’s October but highs have been around 10-12C, and some nights dip to 2C. Is it worth waiting a bit longer or should I line up now at Canadian Tire? Don’t want to regret waiting too long if the first frost hits early.

Better safe than sorry! I swapped last week in Ottawa when temps were regularly below 7C. Winter rubber grips way better than all-seasons even before snow.

Yeah, Toronto can be unpredictable. I’d say once you’re consistently seeing 7C or lower, it’s time to switch. Your tires will last longer too if you don’t use winter tires on warm roads.

Did you check if your current tires have all-season or summer tread? That might influence when you need to swap.
