Is the Instant Pot Worth the Hype, or Just a Trend?

Sophia Young · · 3 replies

I've been seeing a ton of posts about the Instant Pot lately, and I'm honestly a bit skeptical. Sure, it sounds great to have a gadget that can pressure cook, slow cook, sauté, and even make yogurt, but is it really worth the investment?

I've noticed some people rave about how much time it saves, while others point out that it’s not really straightforward to use, especially for someone who's not tech-savvy.

Then there’s the clean-up. Does anyone else find the multiple parts daunting? I mean, I already have a cabinet full of small appliances that I barely use, and the thought of adding another one gives me anxiety. Plus, are there hidden costs like needing to buy extra accessories?

I’m curious to hear different perspectives. For those who own one, how do you find it in terms of convenience and practicality? Do you use it regularly, or is it more of a countertop decoration? What’s the real deal here?

I get why the Instant Pot is so hyped, but is it really the miracle machine everyone claims? Sure, you can pressure cook, slow cook, and more, but let’s talk about the learning curve and potential hidden costs. What if it breaks? Replacement parts aren't always cheap, and if you don't use it regularly, it just becomes another gadget taking up space. Plus, how long before it ends up in the back of a cabinet, gathering dust? Not to mention the time spent cleaning those complex parts—it might not be as convenient as it seems.

Open concept layouts look stunning in photos, but let's not ignore the drawbacks. Have you thought about how sound travels in those big spaces? With kids running around, privacy becomes a luxury. Plus, heating and cooling can get pricey—those vast areas can lead to higher energy bills. And don’t get me started on where to put furniture! You might end up feeling like you’re living in a giant warehouse. Is it really worth chasing that Instagram aesthetic?

I totally get the skepticism about the Instant Pot! I was in the same boat until my buddy convinced me to give it a shot. I’ll admit, it's pretty awesome for meal prep. I can whip up a killer chili in 30 minutes and have enough leftovers for the week.

But here’s a fun twist: have you ever tried using it for desserts? I made a cheesecake last month that was surprisingly easy and super creamy! Just a heads up though, you’ll need to figure out the right water to steam ratio. What about other gadgets you’ve tried? Any hidden gems in your kitchen that aren’t just fads?
