Open concept kitchen/dining - losing wall worth it in Calgary?

Thinking about knocking down the wall between my kitchen and dining room to open up the space. House is 1980s bungalow in Calgary. I’m worried about losing storage and the mess from the kitchen being too visible. Anyone done this with a decent budget (around 15k CAD) and happy with the result?

We opened up our kitchen to dining last year here in Calgary. You'll lose some storage but added a nice island with cabinets so it balances out.

Make sure you check if the wall is load-bearing! We had to get a beam installed, which upped the cost.

Consider half wall or pass-through for some openness but still keep separation. My contractor suggested that and it worked well.
