Getting quotes for asphalt shingles in Toronto—what’s reasonable?

I’m shopping around for roof replacement quotes using architectural asphalt shingles. Living in Toronto, I got a couple estimates ranging from CAD 7000 to CAD 11,000 for a 1500 sq ft roof. One includes ice and water shield throughout, the other only at eaves. Is the more expensive one worth it? Anyone had similar pricing recently?

The ice and water shield can save you from serious damage in winter, especially with Toronto’s freeze-thaw cycles.

Make sure the quotes include removal of old shingles and disposal—some don’t and surprise you with extra fees.

Did they include ventilation upgrades? That also affects your roof’s lifespan and energy efficiency.
