Range hood noise too loud in my open-concept Toronto kitchen, any muffler hacks?

Kevin MacDonald · · 3 replies

My range hood is super loud, especially since my kitchen is open to the living room. Makes it hard to watch TV or chat when cooking. I spent CAD 500 on a Broan, but it’s still noisy. Anyone tried adding soundproofing or mufflers to reduce noise?

Try adding sound-dampening foam around the ducting if accessible. It helped reduce my hood noise a bit in Calgary.

Installing a more powerful external blower outside might help, but it can be pricey and complex.

Have you checked if the fan blades are dirty? Cleaning them sometimes cuts noise down.
