Ideas to keep garden pathways from getting muddy in rainy BC?

I live in a very rainy part of BC and my garden paths get muddy and slippery after rains. I want to fix this without too much concrete or pavement. Any suggestions on materials or techniques to keep paths dry and safe?

Try gravel with landscape fabric underneath; it drains well and is affordable.

Wood mulch or bark chips can help but need regular replenishing.
