Smart thermostat that works with electric baseboard heating in Toronto?

Liam Young · · 3 replies

I’ve got electric baseboard heaters in my Toronto townhouse and want to upgrade to a smart thermostat to save on hydro costs. Honeywell and Nest seem popular but I’m not sure if they’re compatible. If they aren’t, any recommendations? Also, is it worth investing CAD 300+ on one? Would I see meaningful savings in the cold Ontario winters?

Baseboard heating usually means line voltage thermostats. Nest and Honeywell’s smart ones work on low voltage, so they won't work directly.

Look into Flair or Mysa smart thermostats; they’re designed for electric baseboards and wifi enabled.

Savings depend on your usage, but properly scheduled smart thermostats can cut heating bills by 10-15%.
