Window condensation issues in basement during spring thaw
Ethan Smith · · 3 replies
I have condensation problems on my basement windows every spring when temperatures fluctuate here in Toronto. The moisture is making the sills damp and I worry about mold. Windows are older single-pane wooden frames. Would upgrading to double-pane vinyl help, or should I try dehumidifiers and ventilation first?

Upgrading windows will definitely help reduce condensation, but ventilation is crucial in basements.

Try a good dehumidifier and ensure window wells drain properly.

Sometimes adding storm windows on the exterior is a cheaper alternative if full replacement isn’t in budget.
