The Great Debate: Open Shelving vs. Cabinets in Kitchens

Sophia Young · · 1 replies

Open shelving has become all the rage in kitchen design, but is it really practical? While it creates a more airy feel and can display beautiful dishware, I can’t help but wonder about the dust and grease build-up. Not to mention, if you’re in a hurry, do you really want to be hunting around for that hidden spice or pan?

On the flip side, traditional cabinets offer a cleaner look and keep everything hidden, which is a blessing for those of us who aren’t the tidiest cooks. But then you have to deal with the hassle of constantly opening and closing doors, plus the potential for wasted space if you’re not careful about your organization.

What do you all think? Are the aesthetic benefits of open shelving worth the potential mess, or is it better to stick with the practicality of cabinets? What’s your experience with both options?

Oh, the open shelving vs. cabinets debate! I recently revamped my kitchen and went for open shelves. At first, I was worried about the dust too, but honestly, it’s not as bad as I thought! I love showcasing my colorful dishes and plants. A little regular wipe-down keeps things fresh. Plus, it totally opens up the space and makes it feel homier!

If you’re going for it, just make sure your shelves are mounted securely. And maybe invest in some cute baskets for those items you don’t want on full display. Anyone else have tips or fun display ideas? I’m all ears!
