Winter Starter Fluid for Diesel Trucks - Necessary or Overkill?

I’ve got a 2014 Ford F-350 diesel in Northern Manitoba. Winters get brutal, down to -40 C. Some friends swear by using starter fluid before firing up on really cold mornings. Is this really necessary with modern diesel engines and using the right winter blends? Don’t want to damage the injectors or glow plugs.

Modern diesels usually don’t need starter fluid if glow plugs work well and fuel system is winterized.

If you have injector heaters or block heaters, those help more than starter fluid.

Only use starter fluid sparingly, too much can cause engine damage.
