DIY electrical outlet replacement in Calgary – what precautions to take?
Jack Wilson · · 3 replies
I want to replace a faulty electrical outlet in my Calgary home myself. It’s a simple 2-plug outlet but I’m not very experienced with electrical work. What safety measures should I follow? Should I get a voltage tester? Also, can I find replacement outlets at Canadian Tire or should I go to a specialized store?

Always turn off the breaker before starting. Use a voltage tester to confirm the power is off.

Canadian Tire has basic outlets, but if you want tamper-resistant or GFCI outlets, you might check Home Depot or an electrical supply store.

If you’re unsure, consider hiring an electrician, especially with older wiring.
