Which is better for bathroom counters in Ottawa: granite or engineered stone?

I’m torn between choosing granite or engineered stone (quartz) for my bathroom vanity in Ottawa. Granite seems natural but needs sealing every year, while quartz is low maintenance. Budget is around $1500 installed for a 6 ft vanity top with sink cutouts. Any locals who had either material and can share durability and look impressions? Also interested if freeze-thaw cycles affect any material negatively up here.

I went with quartz in Ottawa and love how easy it is to clean. No sealing needed, which is a big plus with our winters.

Granite has a beautiful natural pattern but I had a chip repaired after a year. Probably from me being clumsy though!

For bathrooms, quartz might be better since it resists staining from cosmetics and water better.
