Mechanic found rust on undercarriage of 2010 Subaru Outback - deal breaker?

I went for an inspection on a 2010 Subaru Outback with 160k km in Montreal. The mechanic flagged surface rust under the car’s frame but said it wasn’t structural yet. Should I walk away or try to negotiate a lower price? Winter salty roads here worry me a lot.

Surface rust is common around here but get a detailed quote on how much it'll cost to fix before deciding.

Ask the seller if they’ve done any anti-rust treatments recently. That can slow things down.

If you really want the car, use the rust as leverage to knock down the price by $500-$1000.
