Breaker trips every time I use my window AC, too old panel?

Liam Young · · 3 replies

I installed a window AC unit in my Toronto condo but the breaker trips as soon as it powers on. The panel is original from the 70s with a few breakers replaced over time. Should I upgrade the whole panel or just the breaker? Any electricians in here who can advise on costs around GTA?

Sounds like your breaker is underrated for the AC load. Could be cheaper to replace breaker with a higher amp one.

Upgrading panels in Toronto runs around $1200-$1500 CAD from my experience.

Make sure the wiring is compatible if you switch breakers or panels, safety first!
