Best budget-friendly ways to fix patchy lawn in Toronto?

Jack White · · 3 replies

Hey all, I’ve got a pretty patchy lawn after last winter and the spring rains haven’t helped much. I’m in Toronto, looking for budget-friendly ways to improve it without hiring pros. Anyone tried seeding with Scotts Turf Builder or similar? I’ve read about core aeration but not sure if it’s worth it this year. Also, what’s a good schedule for watering in early June here?

I seeded my lawn last May in Ottawa, and aeration before definitely helped. I rented a core aerator from Home Depot for about $80 a day.

Toronto watering schedules can be tricky. Early morning watering twice a week should be fine unless we hit a heat wave.

Did you check your soil pH? Sometimes patchiness is from acidity issues.
