Is Your Lawn Really Worth the Maintenance?

Let’s talk about the long-term costs and benefits of maintaining that perfect lawn. We’ve all seen those stunning yards with lush green grass that looks like a carpet, but at what point does it become a money pit? Between the water bills, fertilizer, and weekly mowing, it really adds up, doesn't it?
And let’s not forget about the time spent—how many hours are we dedicating each week to keeping it pristine? Not to mention, the potential hidden costs like pest control or dealing with irrigation issues.
Now, what if we threw in the idea of going native? Native plants can reduce maintenance, conserve water, and they’re often more resilient. But do they really add that same curb appeal?
I’m curious, how many of you have made the switch to lower-maintenance landscaping, and what were your experiences? Is the trade-off worth it in the end?

Oh man, the lawn debate! I feel like I’m always torn between wanting that gorgeous green lawn and being practical. In Winnipeg, our short growing season makes it tricky too! I tried going for that perfect look, and it was a total money pit — the water bills skyrocketed in the summer, and don’t even get me started on the fertilizers. This year, I decided to embrace a mix of clover and native grasses! It's low maintenance, plus it’s great for the bees. Anyone else tried a less traditional lawn? Let’s swap ideas!
