Stubborn carpet glue residue after switching to hardwood floors

Jack Wilson · · 3 replies

Hey folks, tore out old carpet in my Vancouver condo and put down engineered hardwood. Still have sticky glue residue on the plywood subfloor, which is making my new floor squeak. Tried scraping and some adhesive remover from Canadian Tire but no luck. Any tips?

Try using mineral spirits or a citrus-based adhesive remover; both helped me on a similar job.

You might need to sand the subfloor or use a floor-leveling compound to get rid of residue and create a smooth surface.

Did you let the adhesive remover sit for a while before scraping?
